Slow Cooker for Chuck Roast for Beef Soup

It would be very helpful and courteous to review a recipe made EXACTLY the way it is written. It is not beneficial at all to read how y'all rated your ain recipes using another person's proper noun. Marie, your recipe made equally written, is splendid. Thanks!

THIS IS Awesome. Boyfriend and I couldn't believe it! I modified the recipe based on other people'due south comments. Anybody was saying to add together Montreal Steak Seasoning, which I didn't have. So I looked it upwards and information technology's basically comprised of pepper, table salt, and paprica. For the rub i combined i Tbsp each of kosher salt, crushed peppercorns (i crushed), and paprika. I too added about 1 tsp. of garlic powder. This I rubbed on the meat and sprayed a little olive oil over superlative. To the pot, i added 3 big chopped carrots, six or and so small red potatoes (chopped), an onion, and one-half a container of minor fresh mushrooms. Additionally, I added 2 bay leaves, about a tsp. of worshire sauce, and the onion soup mix along with the water. Didn't accept celery. SUPER SPICE-A-RIFIC!!! Enjoy!

I have cooked a lot of roast in my twenty-four hour period and this is the ONLY time it has come up out perfect! I didn't add any vegetables with information technology except for cutting an onion in half and setting it on summit of the roast for the concluding 3 hours of cooking time. I made mashed potatoes and green beans dissever, but don't like my potatoes to taste like anything except potatoes. I besides whisked 2 teaspoons of cornstarch with 1/2 loving cup water and added to the au jus that I transfered to a sausepan. I boiled the au jus mixture for about five minutes, whisking often, for a wonderful brownish gravy. I was tempted to non cook it as long as the recipe calls for, but delight just permit it cook and keep check on the liquid level. Roast cooked this style just melts in your oral fissure! Thank you for sharing your talent!

why do people take a recipe and turn it into another totally differtn recipe using it as a review? Just create a new recipe.

This was fabulous. I took a few reviewers advice and soaked the roast in blood-red vino vinegar over night. I made a rub with pepper, salt, lemon pepper and freshly minced garlic and and then browned the roast on all sides. I was using my mother-in-police'southward roaster and it didn't have low, med and high so I set it to virtually 200 degrees for 8.v hours. I added the onion soup mix, some onion, lots of garlic, carrots, some celery nosotros needed to get rid of and 2 potatoes. Nosotros served it with Sky Loftier Yorkshire Pudding (allrecipes.com) which was great! We likewise had garlic mashed potatoes and an like shooting fish in a barrel green salad. This was an AT recipe and nosotros'll use it once again!

Corking recipe, but I browned the meat on all sides afterward seasoning the roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning prior to putting it in the slow cooker. This added bang-up depth of flavour to the meat and the finished gravy. I omitted the potatoes from the slow cooker, and oven roasted them instead with olive oil, salt/pepper and whole garlic cloves during the last hour of cooking the roast. A crispy dissimilarity to the luscious gravy. My family unit loved this repast!
12/05/2003
Very, very skillful--the only matter I did dissimilar is added a couple beef burgoo cubes and more water so that I could make lots of gravy. I even chopped up the left over roast put it dorsum in the dull cooker and made a stew with it--information technology was dandy! Thank you Marie!
08/12/2011
I followed the recipe exactly and was a flake disappointed. I had high hopes starting out only the end result was rather banal. Don't get me wrong, the meat was nice and tender, the veggies yummy (a lilliputian mushy, but a good mushy), and at that place was enough of gravy. Even so it needed flavour, also searing the meat with salt and pepper didn't do anything for it. What I would do adjacent time is sear the meat with Worcestershire, olive oil, and a piddling butter. Then after I put the meat into the crock-pot with veggies on summit of the meat. I would deglaze the pan with a mix of either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon and beef stock. Then I would cascade the liquid with pan drippings into the crock-pot. I'm not sure if I would apply the onion soup mix or not, I think that would depend on the users personal preference.

Really enjoyed this, my structure working fiance & his friends practically inhaled this! I did supersede the water with beer and added a little beef boullion... my bloke was charmed to detect a new way to get beer into his arrangement and it gave it an amazing flavor! In that location were no leftovers at all.

I used this as a starting point to learning how to brand a great roast. The first time I followed the recipe. The 2nd time I tweaked it after reading the reviews. Now, I have created a masterpiece. This is how I do it:Make sure you utilize a Chuck roast first of all. Then, dark-brown the meat with salt, pepper, garlic/onion as desired. So, place in slow cooker. Deglaze the pan with a petty beef goop then add information technology and addtional tin to dull cooker (total 2 cans of beef broth). Pour i envelope of dry onion soup mix on top, and one tBLsp of Worceshire sauce on pinnacle of the meat. Cook on depression for 8hrs. After vi hrs. add quartered cerise potatoes and carrots to the slow cooker. When done information technology volition be falling apart so remove from tedious cooker carefully. Make gravy by using broth and flour/cornstarch/water mixture and heating to just boiling in dissever saucepan stirring constantly till desired thickness is acheived. Yum!
04/28/2013
To all the reviewers that said "It was delicious, Simply I modified the recipe by adding this or irresolute this". Once you change anything about an original recipe, you are no longer cooking the recipe but a new recipe that will taste nil similar that 1.
09/29/2008
For those of you that want a thicker gravy, add flour and onion (for flavor) when y'all are browning the meat. Browning the meat gives it a squeamish colour and there will be no additional steps at the stop for a thicker gravy. I find that beefiness broth gives a "tinny" taste. Using chicken broth lets the sense of taste of the beefiness shine through. I utilize chicken broth along with a dainty dry red wine. Remember that when adding vino, practise not add a vino that is also fruity or has been "oaked" (usually older wines). The long cooking fourth dimension will concentrate any fruit, oak or other flavors that the wine has. Likewise when adding vegetables, add them about halfway through the cooking time and Non in the starting time. Delicious!
11/ten/2008
Fall apart TENDER! I've been making this recipe for many years (before this was even added). There's no need to brown roast starting time! No need for the salt! THE ONION SOUP MIX HAS Enough Table salt IN Information technology Alone! Listen- Simply throw the roast in the crock, just identify carrots effectually it, (Use the cut up potatoes for mashed, it simply goes much better with the tender roast!)cover top of roast with onion soup mix and so TOP WITH Cream OF MUSHROOM SOUP. You'll see it'due south only fantabulous!
04/15/2009
In combination of several suggestions in the reviews, this was simply the Most DELICIOUS AND TENDER roast I have always tasted (it was also my first time making 1)! Hither's what I did... I sliced a 2½ lb boneless beefiness chuck pot roast into iv large serving pieces. It didn't accept much fat so no trimming was necessary. In a deep dish, I rubbed all sides with steak seasoning, fresh footing black pepper, coarse kosher common salt, and well-nigh 2+ tablespoons ready-to-apply minced garlic then poured about 1+ tablespoon balsamic vinegar and Worcestershire sauce on top turning the meat to coat. While that saturday, I sliced up a yellow onion then browned the meat on all sides with the onion in actress virgin olive oil. Transferred the meat (including all the juices in the pan) to my slow cooker, added 1 cup beef goop, ane+ tablespoon minced garlic, ¼ packet of onion soup mix (leftover from making dip), fresh ground pepper, garlic salt, oregano, marjoram, thyme, and paprika. Covered and set to low for six-8 hours. Just most 2 hours before it was washed, I added whole baby carrots, chunks of celery, red onion, and mushrooms. Instead of adding potatoes, I made mashed potatoes and brown gravy from the juices. The original recipe is a good "base of operations". Merely exist creative and apply your spices!
03/17/2011
I accept prepared my pot roasts this way quite a few times now, and am finally getting around to reviewing the recipe! Sometimes I add a teaspoon or two of Meliorate than Bouillon beefiness base, a clove or two of minced garlic, or apply beef broth rather than water, merely the basic recipe e'er remains the same, and always turns out delicious. I had planned on making this today, actually. I bought my beef in bulk from a local farmer who raises grass-fed cows for the first time ever, and was and then excited to pop my starting time grass-fed roast into the crock pot this morning! I defrosted information technology, unwrapped it, and then realized it was actually a 7-bone chuck roast. Not a boneless chuck roast. I had already defrosted it, and so I went ahead and browned it, then tried to stuff it in my crock pot. No such luck. Information technology wasn't going to fit. So, it sabbatum in my refrigerator in my covered roasting pan "marinating" in the onion soup mix and water all twenty-four hours while I did some research on how to melt a vii-os roast in the oven. Just in case anyone wants to utilise this blazon of cut, or finds themselves in a like demark, hither'southward what I did: broil covered at 280 for 4 hours, adding the veggies at the final hour. The result was fall-off-the-os, slice-with-a-fork, melt in your mouth tender and absolutely delicious! Crock pot is good, but this method produced a roast equally every bit good. The next "variation" I'm going to try is to make my own onion soup mix from a recipe also here on AllRecipes. Tin can't await!
02/15/2011
Great base recipe! I took the communication of others and browned my meat in olive oil but outset I rubbed it with Montreal Steak Seasoning on all sides. I used a 1lb bag of carrots and nearly 5 ruby-red potatoes - skins left on, whole onion - sliced, and 2 stalks of celery. I used 2 cups of water and boiled it on stove with 2 beef boullion cubes. I added the onion soup mix to the boiling beef goop and poured mixture over meat and veggies in crock pot. I too added about 1/4C worcestershire sauce. I added some garlice pepper & garlic salt to the crock pot. Cooked on low for 9 hours and meat was falling apart! I removed the roast from the crock pot and cut it upwards and then added corn starch mixed with cold water to the crock pot to thicken upward the juices into a gravy. Everything was perfect!!
06/30/2010
calculation my ii cents! I did alter it based on other reviews...2 pkgs of o.s.m instead of 1, instead of water I used a half cup of beef broth and a one-half cup cooking vino, and I too threw in a can of cream of mush. soup....I know the point is to get away from a soup mix (foam soup that is) but I idea it was the all-time roast that I have always fabricated!!! Oh one more than thing...I omited the potatoes and made mashed instead! I know that people sometimes have something to say most people rating a recipe after they have added thier own tweeks, but isint information technology what its kind of about?? getting ideas from others and tweeking them to arrange our own taste? I d k...Just proverb give this a endeavor! It is awesome! My veggies were perfectly cooked as directed in the recipe!
12/26/2010
MMM.... MMM.... MMM.... yummy! Yeah that sum's it up. Stop reading all the reviews and simply try information technology... your gonna love it.

This is an onetime standby at my house. my mother made this many times while I was growing up, and it was 1 of my favorite meals. My husband now loves this pot roast! I don't always brownish the roast get-go, depending on how rushed I am that morning time. The terminal time I made this, I peeled and sliced the potatoes the nighttime before and stored them in a ziplock bag with water. I placed the raw beefiness, seasonings, and onions in a crockpot liner sealed with a twist tie and popped information technology in the fridge. The next morning, I just had to untie the crockpot liner and place information technology in the pot. I drained the potatoes and opened a bag of peeled babe carrots to add to the pot. Easy and delicious!
x/27/2007
Used a 3.5lb rump roast instead and it worked out amazingly!! The meat just roughshod apart and was total of flavour. I did modify the recipie equally others suggested. Seasoned the beef with ground pepper & garlic salt. Added a can of beef broth and a few dashes of worcestershire sauce to recipe. I also added mushrooms during last 4 hours of cooking. At the end, took out all the veg and thickend the sauce with flour. Used more potatoes and so what recipe chosen for and omitted the celery. All-time roast I ever made!! Very tastey.
x/14/2005
This is a staple in my house...we Dearest information technology! I utilise garlic common salt and pepper, and Lipton Beefy Onion soup mix. I also employ baby carrots and sugariness potatoes instead of regular potatoes. I add together a can of beef broth to ensure there is enough liquid to cover the meat. Cooks on Depression for 10-12 hrs, and is but perfect! I make "pot roast burritos" with the leftovers...husband loves those! :) An Easy, no-hassle, tasty pot roast!!! *notation - close all of your bedroom doors when you plow on the crock or else your rooms volition odor like pot roast for days...)
10/28/2007
I take been doing pot roast like this for years. The bonus is, brand an extra roast at the same time, or use leftover roast and broth left in cooker for beef and noodles, or chop leftover beef and veggies advertisement back to broth, add together frozen mixed veggies, chopped cabbage, and a little V8 juice and you lot have succulent bootleg beef vegetable soup!!!!!!!!!
01/21/2010
WOW!!! Allow me tell you, I have tried to make pot roast several times already merely I gave up considering the meat concluded up being dry. I used stewing beef, rump roast, and other cuts. At present I know YOU MUST Use CHUCK ROAST...that's what makes this recipe super! I took the advice of other reviewers and rubbed the meat with Montreal Seasoning but I did not brown information technology--just put it in the crockpot. I as well used a can of beef broth instead of water. I added vegetables half style through and used red potatoes because information technology's not as starchy as white. My son said the beef just melts in your mouth! Tasty, delicious and not bad comfort food! I've always wanted a good beefiness roast/stew recipe and now I have it! Thanks, Marie, for sharing and telling us to utilize the correct cut of beefiness!

I was feeling a little 50'south homey and wanted to feed my family unit something lumberjack hearty, so pot roast was an easy decision. However, never having made it before, I wanted to try this recipe since it promised ii important things: moist + juicy. I layered the bottom of the crock pot with baby carrots, halved celery stalks and quartered scarlet potatoes. Then, I combined the onion soup mix with 1 can of beef goop and poured information technology over all. The ii.5 lb roast was next. I rubbed information technology with minced fresh garlic, pepper and common salt, then gave it a quick sear in olive oil. The roast and then joined the veggies in the crockpot, and the remaining olive oil + pan juices were poured over all. Our dinner cooked for 14 hours on depression, which in the cease, would have been better at 12 hours. Nevertheless, it was delicious! Our veggies weren't mushy at all, the savory onion taste had thoroughly absorbed into everything, and in that location wasn't even a need to make gravy. Next time though, I'll brand the potatoes separately. I thought they took away too much of the flavor, and will add lots more carrots + celery, and merely a touch of h2o to cease upwardly with more juice at the end. This tasted much improve the second day as leftovers, just the meat hasn't lost any of its fall apartiness that my family unit loves. Would definitely make this once more with a few tweaks.

My 87 twelvemonth old Dad prefers hot meals for supper even in the summertime. I fabricated this crockpot meal to avoid heating up the house. Considering information technology was just him and me, I only used a 2 pound chuck roast. Side by side time I'm making a bigger one. This was fabled! Dad raved about it and be both wished nosotros had more than leftovers. A very easy but absolutely delicious meal!
02/24/2014
Actually loved the roast. Information technology was tender, juicy and cut with a fork. Even so, I made a mistake. I used both the dry out onion soup mix and vegetable goop. I should have used one or the other. Had I added extra salt, it would take been fashion likewise salty. Adjacent time I make this, and I absolutely WILL brand it again, I'll have care to watch the salt content. I'd much rather add more than to my plate than risk the dish being over salty. And I did add extra carrots and potatoes. With a iii pound chuck roast, I added at least 6 overnice size potatoes and 2 pounds of carrots. It was a terrific meal, served with squeamish hot biscuits.
12/15/2008
Very tasty roast. Quick notes: 1/2 the soup mix, it can arrive style too salty (add maple syrup to cut of demand be), sear with steak seasoning, de-coat with red wine and add to the ho-hum cooker. Worcestershire works well (don't over practise information technology though or you are dorsum to the salty problem). Toss in a bay leafage and you are good to go. Take tried this a few times and am constantly tweaking, but follow other suggestions and add your own flair and you volition be laughing all the way to the dinner table.
03/22/2011
This was my first pot roast EVER, and it was so like shooting fish in a barrel! I've made it twice, and I've always used a roast that was less than iii lbs. I used beef goop instead of water and threw in tons of extra veggies. I as well took the communication of some of the other reviews and added Worcestershire sauce and used a Montreal Steak rub on the meat earlier browning. I've left this roast to melt for up to 10 hours on low, and it'due south turned out great both times!
12/14/2008
add ane/4 cup red vino, viii oz. mushrooms, 4 cloves garlic, and 14 oz. can beefiness broth. Thicken gravy with a 2 oz. chocolate-brown roux.
10/25/2008
A very good bones slow cooker roast. After reading reviews, I fabricated a few changes...I inserted slivered garlic into roast; browned the roast on all sides, then removed to the slow cooker. I browned an additional onion in the skillet, then deglazed the pan with 1 loving cup of red wine, instead of adding h2o. I added 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce, the soup mix, and so poured it over the roast. I cooked on high for iv hours, added the veggies, so cooked some other four on low. My unabridged family loved it. Next fourth dimension, I'll brown sliced mushrooms to add to the mix!
12/21/2011
Great unproblematic and tasty recipe!!
07/thirteen/2010
I just have to say; why would anyone ruin a good tasting dish with that awful onion mix. Information technology'southward so fake an salty and overpowering.
01/30/2012
This was melt in your oral cavity succulent! I used a 2.v lb chuck and let information technology go for 9-10 hours. Information technology was falling autonomously and was perfect! I, like other reviewers used low sodium beefiness broth. I fabricated up my ain rub and used that before browning it in the pan (Kosher salt, fresh ground pepper, crimson pepper flakes, paprika, and garlic pulverization). I made a gravy from the leavings in the crock pot and that was delicious as well (Merely the juice/broth with a cornstarch/h2o mixture -- added some common salt and pepper). I also used Yukon Gilt potatoes. Those or red potatoes are really best for this kind of thing. They hold together meliorate than Russet. I just ate some leftovers for lunch and they were just equally practiced as last nighttime. Mmmmmmm!
05/05/2013
Excellent recipe. I added several cloves of garlic, 2 cups cerise wine instead of 1 cup water, spiced iii.3 lb chuck with Montreal spice earlier browning information technology, added bay leaves, used the onion mix, doubled potatoes and carrots simply did not add them until half mode through. I also ran out of time so I cooked it for v+ hours on high. Everyone loved it!
11/27/2013
If its cooked too long the veges will be mushy and the roast will fall apart so much information technology's almost like soup! Adding the veges half way through leaves a tastier pot roast that isn't mush! great flavor with the soup packet!
09/17/2006
Yum - what great comfort food! I used a smaller roast (two.5 lbs) then it was actually washed in 5 hours. As the meat rested earlier carving, I strained the vegetables from the juice and stirred in a slurry of cornstarch on the stovetop. Afterwards boiling a couple of minutes, I had a thick delicious gravy to pour over the repast. I highly recommend serving dinner rolls alongside to sop upwardly the gravy. Definitely a practice-over recipe in this business firm!
10/28/2008
I made this roast yesterday in my new crock pot and wow information technology was sooo good. I browned a 3.5 lb chuck roast on the stove in a little actress virgin olive oil and table salt and pepper then irksome cooked it with the residuum of the ingredients for 5.v hours on low and information technology fell apart. I used blood-red skinned potatoes which I call up next time I will put in an hour later on everything else. Oh aye, I substituted beef goop for the water. With the left over roast I shredded it and added Sweetness Baby Rays bbq sauce and my husband and I had it on hamburger buns this evening for dinner. Thanks for a great recipe Marie!
01/22/2014
I've been using this recipe for years. I'grand a little surprised by the review that said it turned out tasteless. Y'all can add your own touches to suit your taste, as I take from time to time but you can't lose with this basic recipe. It has always come up out a winner.
11/13/2010
This was my very outset time making a pot roast, and it turned out peachy! I rubbed the chuck roast with Montreal Steak Seasoning and garlic powder and browned it in olive oil, as others had suggested. I cooked it on High for 5 hours, calculation the veggies in during the last 60 minutes (and so they didn't turn to mush). Yummyyyy!!!
03/12/2009
FABULOUS!! It took only 20 minutes to prep! The only things I changed were (i) browned the meat before putting it in the crock pot and (2) I used a small bag of babe carrots instead and (3) I seasoned the meat with common salt, pepper, & garlic powder before cooking. It cooked from 10am to 7:30pm and information technology was perfect. Just every bit proficient every bit my moms. I likewise made this recipe another time and instead of using the onion soup mix I used McCormick's Slow Cooker Savory Pot Roast Seasoning..came in a pouch like taco seasoning. Only mix with 1 cup water and pour over the meat & veggies. Information technology was good besides!!
12/21/2006
This potroast using the slow cooker is great. Before I brown the roast, I commonly coat it with a sparse layer of flour. It helps the browning and too adds to the gravy.
12/12/2005
Wonderful, simple comfort food. I used a 3.v lb chuck and pressed Montreal seasoning into the beef prior to browning. I added beef stock instead of water, a couple glugs of red and white vino (think french onion soup), and a can of stewed tomatoes. I omited the potatoes, and served mashed on the side. I made a gravy of a couple cups of the broth. After x hours on low this was tender and delicious! Thank you!
02/09/2013
This is an absolute FAVORITE pot roast recipe--with a few modifications. The meat is e'er ridiculously tender, total of flavour, and tastes amazing! The changes we made are pretty simple-- I use 1 or 2 cans of beef broth instead of the 1c water (depending on the size of roast, 3.5lbs+ 2 cans, less than 3lbs 1can) I season the meat with either a montreal steak seasoning or some other seasonings nosotros take handy (garlic salt, onion pulverization, pepper, maybe some paprika, whatever) and then sear in either a minor amount of balsamic vinegar or olive oil. I like lots of vegetables so we double the vegetables and add half at the beginning (mushy vegetables as a result) only the other half a few hours before the end so they are cooked but not mushy (this is why i add the extra broth since i have lots of extra veggies). I take also used the beefy onion dry soup mix a few times only really couldn't tell much difference betwixt normal onion soup mix--then i use whatever is on paw.
10/13/2008
Very tender and flavorful. Then I would not end up with mushy veggies I put onions on bottom of cooker, added meat(subsequently browning), soup packet, 1 cup h2o and i loving cup beef goop and cooked that on high for two hours and low for one hour before adding tater chunks and baby carrots and cooking on low another three hours. Perfectly tender meat which was not falling apart and sliced nicely and the veggies were soft but non mushy. Too makes delicious gravy.
01/27/2010
Easy, easy, easy! And the meat was so good. I seasoned the meat with Montreal Steak seasoning and dusted with flour (used a chuck roast). Started it cooking in the AM with just the liquid (I added just a little more), soup mix, celery, onion and some garlic. I added the carrots, potatoes a couple hours before it was done. The meat barbarous autonomously and had a squeamish flavor to it, the veggies were cooked well not mushy and the gravy was so yummy. Super and like shooting fish in a barrel definitely a keeper!
01/18/2009
I've tried this recipe for the commencement time in Dec and it has become i of my favorite. Taking several advices from other Cooks who reviewed this recipe, I completely substitute water with beefiness goop, add the vegetables about 3/iv the way afterwards the meat, and instead of salt and pepper to sense of taste the meat, I use a seasoned salt.
09/12/2006
What a bang-up recipe!! I played with it a little bit & used other reviewer's ideas. I rubbed meat tenderizer, garlic pulverisation, course ground pepper & crushed red pepper on it before I browned it. Used a can of beef broth, bundle of onion soup mix & bulky onion soup mix, worcestershire sauce, fresh mushrooms, carrots, celery & potatoe. Kept adding a little scrap of salt, pepper & crushed red pepper as it cooked. It was fall apart-melt in your rima oris tender with a piffling boot to it! Everyone loved it.
xi/xix/2003
Great recipe. For a beefier flavor, I used a cup of canned beefiness broth, instead of the water, and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. This was a great dinner. I just threw it in the crockpot around 2, and since my roast was near half the size called for, information technology was done around seven. Thanks for the recipe : )
03/19/2007
This was sooooo good! I did rub the roast with seasonings and a little flour before I browned on both sides. I as well used ane cup beef broth and 1/ii cup of water. I fabricated a little gravy out of pan drippings and added at terminal minute to thicken. Volition definitely be cooking this one a lot. Thanks.
03/xi/2012
Family really liked information technology. Seasoned chuck roast with salt, onion powder, garlic powder, mustard and a piddling cayenne. Seared in skillet on all sides. Placed in crock pot for half dozen hours. Instead of water used chicken broth and added two bay leafs. Didn't add together onion or celery considering we didn't have any and we didn't miss it. Added my potatoes two hours before information technology was done, carrots and fresh dark-green beans 1.5 hours before done and and then handful of mushrooms 15 min earlier serving. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Veggies were not mush and had dandy flavor. Merely plenty left for hubby next day and he didn't heed eating it at all.
05/07/2007
I fabricated this recipe this night and it was the best roast nosotros take always had (so my husband put it):) I read the reviews before cooking information technology and took the advice of some of the cooks. I used beef broth instead of water I added garlic and monteral steak seasoning. My roast was but about 2 one/2 pounds only I let it melt for 11 hours and information technology was better than e'er before. The vegtables were falling apart along with the meat. Give thanks you lot for the recipe and all the inputs too.
04/28/2013
I merely desire to say that yep, yous demand to use Chuck Roast, and other than any spices you desire to add, all I have ever done to have a perfect roast is to put the roast in the crockpot WITHOUT browning, and I don't add together vegy'due south to the pot. This way, you don't need to add any liquid. I add the onion soup mix and maybe some extra onions, but that's it. Very bones. I cook information technology on high for four to five hours. Done! It simply falls autonomously...love it, honey it, love information technology!
03/22/2010
I browned the roast 1st & and then cooked the onions in the aforementioned pot before adding to the crockpot. I used beef broth instead of the water & increased information technology to two cups. Absolutely delicious!
03/10/2014
Crawly Marie! I had a six pound chuck roast so I adjusted the recipe for 12 servings. Used blood-red potatoes, skin on, quartered. Everything was delicious. Had meat left over so have cutting the meat into one inch cubes. Threw that into the crockpot with a mix of dry onion soup, water and cream of mushroom soup. Will throw all that on top of flat egg noodles this evening. Walla, beef stroganoff! Thank you for sharing your recipe. Melt on!
01/22/2003
This was simple to prepare and very good. My two teens LOVED information technology. The gravy is more "au jus" so it can exist sopped up with bread. For leftovers, I shreaded the meat and it was even better. Instead of just using common salt and pepper when I browned the meat, I used a season all type of seasoning and the flavor was full and rich. Definately a keeper.
02/eighteen/2009
This was really practiced and I knew it would be. I did add a cup of ruby-red wine and a can of gilt cream of mushroom for thicker gravy but I know information technology would take been fine without it.
04/28/2011
delicious! i browned the meat every bit stated and that made all the difference in the way it came out (as opposed to how i used to slow cook it earlier). thanks for the recipe
09/19/2000
This was the first time I take ever made a roast in the tedious cooker, and information technology was oh-so-like shooting fish in a barrel! And, it was very proficient! I used baby carrots and new potatoes (quartered)and it was fix to become in simply a few minutes! My four year old girl loved it!
11/twenty/2013
This is the recipe from the Lipton soup mix box. Has been there forever! I don't like the style the veggies are overcooked in this recipe. Information technology is good but at that place are better. Adept for novice cooks.

I've used this recipe many, many times, but have made several changes to it. I like to coat a couple of sides of the roast with Grillmates steak seasoning (very peppery and has table salt), and I too splash some worcestershire sauce on information technology the nighttime before and stick it in the fridge. The adjacent forenoon, I sear the sides on the pan (with a piffling olive oil). I as well use beefiness goop (or chicken broth, whichever I happen to have at home) instead of water. I too apply small red potatoes and put them in whole. I cut all of my veggies in large chunks (onion is quartered, carrots in large chunks, etc.) For herbs/seasoning, I likewise add together some thyme and rosemary and iv-6 cloves of minced garlic. Delicious!

Followed the recipe as shown....but like my mom used to go far :)

I fabricated this for dinner this by Sunday. It was extremely easy and the meat was melt in your rima oris moist. I felt however that it lacked some flavour. I think side by side fourth dimension I will add some worcestershire sauce to it. I will definitely brand this again though, cheers.

This was wonderful pot roast! I used the Montreal Steak Seasoning and browned the meat alee of time, and male child was that tasty! Information technology added so much flavor. And I retrieve browning the meat ahead of time seals in some of the moisture and so that the roast is actress moist. I besides used a tin of beefiness broth instead of water. Yum!

I impressed my parents with this one. We all loved it - very moist and tender - not overcooked. Information technology was adept for leftovers besides. I have a smaller, older crock pot, so I had to cut the roast (about iv lbs.) into ii chunks, so pile the veggies around it. After the first meal, I cut upwardly more than veggies and slow-cooked them in the leftover juice so that I would have plenty to get with the rest of the roast - excellent leftovers. Likewise, once you air-condition, the side by side day you tin can skim off the congealed fat to reduce fat content. I liked the recipe every bit an easy and tasty style to get some nutritional veggies and fiber - carrots, onions and celery.

Simply fabulous!

Easy and extremely delicious! I added actress carrots and potatoes as I take a large slow cooker. My husband loved this dish.

Followed the recipe with one exception. Earlier browning roast, I tied it. It cooked bang-up and later on removing cording, sliced and plattered the meat and vegs. Served with buttered noodles for those who wanted them and also had mixed light-green Salad.

This was incredibly delicious. I used a three-pound chuck roast (which was fatter than I expected) and browned it on all sides. Subsequently I put the roast in the wearisome cooker, I looked at the bits in the pan and decided to deglaze it with a little (maybe iii-4 Tbsp) balsamic vinegar. Next I poked 4 peeled and smashed garlic cloves in the roast and poured the thickened balsamic on it. Then I put a large sliced white onion on top and sprinkled the onion soup mix over that. Finally, I poured the water over everything and put it in the fridge. Around midnight, I took it out of the fridge and put it in the cooker on low. When I woke up at vii, I added 3/4 pound of baby carrots and another large white onion (sliced). Afterwards near some other 60 minutes, I noticed the roast was falling apart, so I took it out and covered it with foil while everything else cooked some other two hours. Then I drained off the liquid and let it split up (considering my roast was so fat). I skimmed off equally much of the fat and put the roast, carrots, and onions back in the pot, followed by the skimmed liquid and left it on warm until it was set up to serve. The roast was fork tender and full of flavor. I served information technology with rice, carrots, and onions. I await forward to eating the leftovers. I volition make this again! Thanks for sharing, Marie.

This was excellent.Showtime pot roast I've ever made, chose a marbley chuck roast as directed. Replaced the water with the beef broth. I too added garlic and a little actress onion soup for fear it wouldn't accept enough flavour, but I didn't need all that, the original recipe would have been totally fine. I call back next time i'll just get in as is with diluted beef broth. I live lonely and so making big things similar this, I demand to be sure I can eat it. And I did! Vegetables were perfectly done and yummy as well!
04/25/2014
Extremely Easy and delicious I followed Lyrica42 recommendations and served upward with some fresh sourdough bread - perfect condolement nutrient
eleven/sixteen/2013
I've made this recipe a dozen times or more than. It's perfect as is. No demand to modify anything!
03/31/2014
I made this and used beefiness goop instead of the water and no celery because I didn't have whatsoever. It was he best roast I have e'er made. My husband agreed and the kids ate it upwards and had 2nd and 3rds. "Mom, this is the all-time dinner always."
03/18/2014
I cooked the pot roast without the potatoes and carrots. I did put in the onion and took a few garlic cloves and put them in the roast. It is the best I have ever made!
06/15/2011
Succulent! I rubbed the roast with sea salt, croaky pepper, marjoram, thyme and paprika, then dusted with flour before browning. Also, used almost twice the amount of potatoes and carrots and added a little more water and iii cloves of garlic. Just needed to add a little table salt. Might use a vegetable stock base of operations next time.
11/02/2008
I made this for dinner this night and got rave reviews from my husband and footstep son! The roast was tender and moist. I didn't utilise the onion soup, simply used beef bouillon dissolved in h2o instead. Browned in skillet due west/a tad bacon grease blackness pepper, sea table salt, onion pulverisation before putting in tiresome cooker. Used the aluminum foil balls to support the roast in cooker. I used the juice from the roast to brand gravy; cooked potatoes, carrots and celery stalks at the stop of the cooking time for the roast. Yummmmmmm Yummmmmmm!
03/14/2010
YUM! I used this recipe for my kickoff pot roast ever, and it was delish!! I added the potatoes halfway through cooking, per other reviewers' advice. Also used ane tin can of beef broth and a little garlic; otherwise, I fabricated the recipe every bit is. I cooked it on high for about six hours and information technology was perfect! And i tip* I used the crockpot liner numberless that y'all buy in the grocery shop near the ziplock baggies, and it fabricated clean upwards And so much easier! Didn't change the gustation or compromise the flavor a chip! I will be making this recipe for years to come up.
10/17/2013
This recipe was very like shooting fish in a barrel to follow and it turned out great. I didn't have 8 hours and then I put it on loftier for 6 hours and information technology was delish. I'm sure it would have been very good at eight to 10 on the depression setting. I didn't chop upwardly the carrots or onion. I merely fabricated large huge chunks because I was afraid they would exist mushy if I cut them to minor they turned out amazing. I put whole red potatoes on the acme of all of it and they were simply wonderful as well. I volition CERTAINLY do this recipe again. It's easy to make and has only a few basic ingredients which was a big plus. I don't like having to go to the grocery to buy some expensive condiment or spice that I volition never use again. Thank you for a wonderful meal.
01/xx/2015
And so tasty! Turns out perfect every time! I like using ruddy potatoes instead of russet, and those don't get overcooked. Or sometimes I just leave the potatoes out and make mashed potatoes instead. Merely use half a bundle of the mix. One is too much! I use beef broth instead of water if I take information technology, I like it much more that way. Don't employ broth and a whole bundle- it will be way too salty!
02/xvi/2014
Delicious!
02/07/2009
No need to brown the roast (I have done it both ways). I used my medium size crock pot w/ a 3# boneless Chuck Roast, rubbed it with (Cerise Robin Seasoning &) sprinkled w/ Common salt & Pepper. Put 1/2 package of Onion Soup Mix on it, poured 1 loving cup hot water, added 3 lg potatoes & as many babe carrots I could still allowing i-2" clearance from top of crock as it is Of import you lot don't overfill your crock pot for proper cooking. (Makers' suggest on filling it 75% full.) I cooked on HIGH for five.5 hours then turned information technology down to Low for the last ii hours.... ~Wonderful Aroma ....TO DIE FOR!! 2ND-TIME-NOTES: Used Beef Goop instead of h2o (nearly 2 cups), did not brownish roast, used bag of fingerling potatoes & cooked on Depression for 10 1/ii Hours. YUMMY!
04/22/2014
Followed the recipe but did use Montreal Steak Seasoning & added 2 cloves of garlic. It was very good but seemed to be missing something to give it a lilliputian more season. Will employ this again. Cheers!
12/17/2008
My first pot roast! Information technology came out a lilliputian tough i cooked on loftier for 4hrs, my mom-in-police says if on loftier i should have cooked for 3hrs but overall the sense of taste was very good, everyone ate information technology all. thank you lot for a swell recipe, def will make once again.
09/24/2013
This is a great recipe! With a few modifications of course. I like to braise my roast in some olive oil. I had a 3.5lb roast. I added 2 cups of beefiness broth to the mix (I dearest the "Better than Bouillon" brand, just I think the underground to the liquid is that I as well like to add a can of beer to information technology. Whatever beer in the fridge, doesn't really affair. I personally just used a Bud Low-cal. As per other reviewers, I added my potatoes, onion and carrots in at the one-half style bespeak and saw no apply cutting upward the carrots as they're pocket-sized enough and easily cook in the time that'southward left.
07/13/2010
This is pretty much the way I have always fabricated pot roast. Only divergence is that I don't ever brown information technology first. But I do put salt, pepper and flour all over the roast. This way, it makes it's own gravy and is never lumpy. I use different seasonings - depending what I take on mitt. I have used steak seasoning, seasoned table salt, garlic salt, etc. They all piece of work fine and are a matter of taste. I use beef broth and bulky onion soup. For veggies I employ potatoes (for average size potatoes, I quarter them, for large potatoes I cut them into six or 7 pieces), two boilerplate size onions quartered and carrots (baby or regular). I use lots of potatoes because DH and sons dearest them this fashion. This along with some rolls is one of our favorite dinners. I cook on depression in the crock pot for well-nigh 10 hours while I am at work. The house smells sooooo gooooood when we come domicile!
09/29/2010
I gave this four stars because I fabricated some changes. First, I simply used a ii lb roast. I followed the communication of others and rubbed Montreal Steak Seasoning on it and browned it in a bandage iron skillet. I also substituted ane loving cup beef goop for the h2o. When I came dwelling from work, the house smelled incredible! Baked some crescent rolls and DH and were in heaven!
11/xvi/2010
I've made this pot roast 2 Sundays in a row. And I will probably continue making information technology every Sunday. And so, Then, GOOD. I used a boneless chuck roast. Vegetables and meat done to perfection. So like shooting fish in a barrel, and tasted then great. Thanks for a neat recipe that I will utilize again and over again.
05/19/2011
Tasty and tender. I seasoned with lots of Montreal Seasoning but I didn't call back it was necessary to use beef broth as some suggested, and so I used 3/4 c. water and 1/4 c. red wine, and I volition do the same next fourth dimension. I left the peel on my pocket-size blood-red whole potatoes and cut the carrots into largish chunks, and they were simply right afterwards cooking all mean solar day on depression. I did leave out the celery and next time will add together more carrots. Thanks!
10/24/2013
I didn't become to try this but my boyfriend RAVED about it. He said it was the best meal I have made- which saddens me slightly since it was so easy to set up. I took a few other comment's suggestions and added some Worchestire- and besides browned the meat with garlic powder, McCormick steak seasoning, common salt and pepper. And then threw everything into the crockpot and let information technology cook for the 8 hours. Overall rating (from the boyfriend)= Astonishing. Definitely a keeper.
02/xix/2014
acceptable.
10/18/2011
So yummy! The meat falls apart only like a perfec pot roast should. I followed other'due south advice and used Montreal Steak seasoning and am glad I did. I also subbed beef broth for the water. At that place is enough juice in the pot later cooking to brand gravy. Cracking recipe!
11/17/2010
Mine turned out cracking. The only reason I give four stars is considering I changed it slightly. Instead of h2o I used beefiness broth, and I added a larger variety of veggies. I took a footling of the broth when information technology was done and mixed in a little flour to make gravy. The roast was fall apart perfect and the gravy was awesome. I will make it again with those small changes.
ten/02/2011
Instead of the onion soup mix, I added 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce to the broth and inserted i bay foliage into the roast, discarding the bay leafage earlier serving the roast. IMHO, the roast was fifty-fifty improve- without those pesky onion bits from the soup mix in the goop.
08/27/2013
Will endeavour this recipe this week! If the meat is bland, effort using a pocketknife to make holes all over the roast and stuff with a whole clove of garlic in each along with salt, pepper and any other dry seasoning you may similar. trust me the garlic gives neat season!
10/17/2010
I loved the flavor of this pot roast! I followed the recipe completely other than using beef broth instead of h2o to be able to make delicious gravy at the terminate. I felt that 8 hours was the perfect time for this. Others have said to look to add the vegtables until half style through, simply I don't think they would have been equally skilful if I would take done that. I used whole babe carrots, onions cut into fourths, and largely cubed russet potatoes. I thought they were the perfect texture with having simmered the unabridged time. Simply a very picayune crisis only soft enough to melt in your oral cavity. I'd recommend adding them at the commencement if you similar your veggies soft!
01/18/2008
FABULOUS!!! I doctored this up a scrap by calculation 4 cloves of chopped garlic to the slow cooker later on the meat, veggies and soup mix were in. I also used table salt, pepper and season-all on the meat when I browned it in the skillet. I have a five quart slow cooker and used 5 pounds of chuck roast, half-dozen pocket-sized/medium blood-red potatoes, a small purse of baby carrots, 3 celery stalks, about a 1/2 cup chopped onions and the garlic, . My wearisome cooker was FULL! I think the onion soup mix is what makes this sooooo proficient! I let is melt on low for 8 hours, only opened the slow cooker lid twice - and it came out Fabulous!!! My family LOVED it and my hubby even said this is better than whatever he'southward had in a eatery before. This is my new favorite tedious cooker recipe and will be made many more times!! :)
09/19/2008
THE BEST Always!!!!!! The meat was and so ridiculously tender!!! Information technology literally melted in your mouth! I did marinate my meat overnight(in italian dressing) and I also took the advice of previous reviewers with a few other changes: deliquesce 2 beef boullion cubes in the water before calculation information technology in (you could use ane can of beefiness broth for the aforementioned result), and add together 3 cloves of garlic, chopped besides. I also added 1 tsp cayenne pepper to requite it some kick. When it was done, I could barely continue my boyfriend out of the pot long enough to actually serve it up! Oh I tin't say enough almost this roast- it was THAT good! I will be reusing this recipe many many more than times. Cheers sooo much Marie!
11/02/2008
Exactly what you remember of when you think of pot roast. Just perfect! I lightly floured mine and then browned it - this way it fabricated its ain gravy; no need to thicken the juices.
05/23/2010
Didn't need Whatsoever liquid in my slow cooker for perfection. Cooked nine hours and had plenty of liquid when done. Don't add carrots or potatoes until final hour or they'll go mushy. I similar turnips done this manner.
01/13/2010
This was fantastic! Based on the other reviews, dipped the meat in a flour and season mixture earlier browning. 1 affair I like almost the recipe is that it is a everything simply the kitchen sink as far as seasoning goes. Any I had, I threw in to the flour mixture. I assembled everything the night earlier and threw it in the fridge. I cooked on high for an hour as shortly equally I got upward in the morning and then switched it to low and cooked from 8-6. The meat and vegetables were out of this world. The potatoes were soft but not mushy but next time, I might omit them and serve over mashed potatoes. Will definitely brand once more.
